On December 8th, SOV (Search for Outstanding Volunteers) Awarding Ceremony was held.
This year’s awardees are below.

Individual Youth category

EFREN G. PEÑAFLORIDA, JR.
In recognition of his outstanding volunteer work as a youth leader and an advocate for the education and protection of disadvantaged children and youths, thereby preparing them to become productive and responsible citizens.

MARK AETHEN G. AGANA
In recognition of his outstanding volunteer work as a youth leader and mentor to public high school students in the fields of Mathematics, Science and English, enabling them to access quality higher education for personal and professional development.

CARLITO C. AMALLA
In recognition of his outstanding volunteer work as a youth leader, particularly in boosting the morale of his own Manobo Tribe, as he help them realize their talents and potentials in theatrical and visual arts performance, thereby serving    as model and inspiration to indigenous communities.

Individual Adult category

FLORENTINA S. VIGILIA-BLANDO
In recognition of her outstanding volunteer work and leadership in environment, education, health and socio-economic livelihood, dedicated to the welfare of the elderly, Persons with Disabilities and other less privileged members of society.

ISABEL COJUANGCO SUNTAY
In recognition of her outstanding volunteer work and active involvement  in livelihood projects and activities in her community, and care and concern to improve the living conditions of those who have less in life.

ZENAIDA V. ROTEA, M.D.
In recognition of her outstanding volunteer work in the advancement and empowerment of women in relation to women’s human rights, poverty, violence against women and other areas that concern women and children.

GERRY DUWIN A. DELA ZERNA
In recognition of his outstanding volunteer work, especially his strategic leadership in the promotion of welfare of children with disabilities, preparation and training of volunteers.

Organization Category

In recognition of its outstanding volunteer work in mobilizing its member-volunteers, employees and partners in providing health, education, livelihood and spiritual value formation for the social rehabilitation of the Aetas.

PHILIPPINE NATIONAL RED CROSS
In recognition of its professionally trained and truly compassionate men and women from all walks of life who are ready to lend a helping hand to those in need-whoever, whenever and wherever they may be.
Where it used to be involved only in providing blood and in disaster-related activities, the PNRC now focuses on a holistic approach to uplift the condition of the most vulnerable.

IVD Activities for 2008

December 5: Symposium on Youth Volunteering and HIV-AIDS Prevention will be held at the   Philippine Normal University (PNU), Taft Avenue, Manila from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.  The symposium will gather around 500 youth participants from different youth organizations and colleges and universities in Metro-Manila and will feature speakers who will share insights and experiences on the symposium topics.  It is hoped that this activity will generate enhanced interest in volunteering and awareness on HIV-AIDS among the youth.

December 7: Advocacy Run for Volunteerism will be held starting at 6:30 a.m. at the University of the Philippines (UP), Diliman, Quezon City.  We are inviting around 100 participants from local and foreign volunteer organizations to participate in the 2.5 K run. The event is in partnership with the Executive Runners Club of the Philippines (RUNNEX). RUNNEX will also have executives and professionals from the government and private sector as runners.

December 5th is International Volunteer Day (IVD).
PNVSCA and UNV (United Nations Volunteer) will hold two activities.
One of them is Symposium on 5/Dec.
And another one is 2.5K Advocacy Run for Volunteerism on 7/Dec.

Turn over of JOCV batch 139
